Meet The Speakers

Michelle Ward, CISSP, CISM, CIPP/G, CGEIT

Michelle Ward, CISSP, CISM, CIPP/G, CGEIT

Michelle Ward manages the Information Security Officer team at SunTrust Bank. Her team establishes relationships between the Enterprise Technology Risk Management organization and various lines of businesses, helping to ensure risks are adequately identified and managed. Prior to SunTrust, Michelle Ward was a Manager in the Security and Privacy practice at Deloitte where she worked with commercial clients as well as the federal government to develop privacy programs, designed strategic entitlement implementation plans for clients deploying identity management solutions and designed information security risk mitigation plans.More

Prior to working at Deloitte, Michelle was the Director of Information Security at ChoicePoint where she developed and implemented policies to protect the enterprise's information assets and effectively manage corporate security threats.  She worked with ChoicePoint business units to manage customer relationships and ensure adequate controls were in place to mitigate risks for customer solutions and performed enterprise wide risk assessments across all corporate and subsidiary locations. Formerly, Michelle managed the Remediation and Relationship Management team at SunTrust Bank. Michelle’s experience at SunTrust included leading assessments of critical corporate applications and testing business units for compliance with policy elements and Gramm-Leach-Bliley regulations. Michelle created effective remediation management processes for the bank and developed key relationships between ETRM and the various business units at SunTrust. She has several years of experience managing Information Technology projects, developing program methodology, creating project tools and templates and preparing documentation as a deliverable to the customer.

Michelle has published several information security and risk management articles, has been involved in the development of CISSP training material and has provided instructional courses at Southern Polytechnic University. She was the founding Director of Communications for the Metro Atlanta chapter of the Information Systems Security Association and spent two years as the Managing Director of Information Security Quarterly Journal. Working with local school systems, Michelle founded and served as the Executive Sponsor of the Junior Information Systems Forensics Association. Michelle has also served as the International Director of Communications and Secretary for the ISFA and as well as the Director of Scholarships.

Aurobindo ‘Robin’ Sundaram

Aurobindo ‘Robin’ Sundaram is the Vice President Security, Investigations, and Incident Response at LexisNexis. In this role, he has responsibility for creating security and risk management policies, procedures, and standards; co-ordinating with operations to implement these policies; creating and enhancing fraud detection technology; investigating and responding to incidents involving inappropriate access to information; and measuring and ensuring compliance with the company’s information security framework.More

Prior to joining LexisNexis, Mr Sundaram spent 6 ½ years at Schlumberger, a leading oilfield services corporation, where he helped initiate their Information Security program, resulting in the team growing by a factor 4 during his tenure there. In addition, during his tenure, for the first time, company (and board reported) objectives were set for information security across the 50,000+ strong organization. He was also closely involved in the design of the technical security architecture for the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Mr. Sundaram’s vision and thought leadership have led to several published papers in the security field, and LexisNexis’ (formerly ChoicePoint) Information Security program has been recognized by many, including Gartner, to be a “role model” for other companies. Mr. Sundaram was recognized as a finalist for Information Security Executive of the year in 2007 for the Southeast US. Mr. Sundaram was the Vice President of the Metro Atlanta ISSA Chapter in 2007, is the Executive Sponsor of the 2007/2008 Habitat for Humanity program for ChoicePoint, and regularly speaks to graduating IT professionals on information security.

Mr. Sundaram holds an MS from Purdue University (where he was one of the first students in the COAST [now CERIAS] information security research laboratory working under Eugene Spafford), and received an MBA from the Goizueta School of Business at Emory University. While he was at Purdue, he participated in research that led to a patent award (US patent 6725378) on the prevention of network based denial of service attacks. He also holds several information security certifications, including the CISSP, CISA, and CISM.
