PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Overview

The “What it Takes to Manage Others” certificate program was created to address the unique needs of the STEM professional who is a manager or ready to make strides in her career by developing management skills. This program offers the skills necessary to communicate with, influence, and lead effective teams.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After completing this program, participants will be able to:

  • Adapt their communication style to facilitate effective relationships
  • Create an action plan using their EQ-i (Emotional  Intelligence) to enhance personal and professional growth and increase leadership effectiveness
  • Employ listening, coaching, and counseling skills to improve employee performance
  • Implement a delegation system and gain control of their time by learning how to plan, schedule and prioritize
  • Identify and select new hires with the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful
  • Apply an integrated change model to guide everyone through a multitude of responsibilities

Program Course 1: Strategic Communication Skills with DiSC Assessment for Managers

Genuine communication requires a deep understanding of another person’s perspective. But when you take into consideration all of our biases, behavioral idiosyncrasies, unspoken emotions, and personal agendas, this can seem almost impossible to achive. This program helps participants develop specific communication strategies that build a culture of trust and collaboration.

Program Course 2: Emotional Intelligence for Managers

Intellect, business knowledge and technical expertise are considered threshold skills required to attain a management position. However, according to research, what sets the superstar managers apart from the mediocre ones is emotional intelligence.  This course helps managers understand  and leverage their social and emotional intelligence skills to self-regulate and manage their teams.

Program Course 3: Performance Management, Coaching and Mentoring for an Engaged Workforce

The purpose of this workshop is to help managers utilize the performance management system in their organization – using the components of the Performance Management Cycle to conduct fair, motivating and legal performance appraisals. Learn the steps in a successful performance cycle to improve effectiveness –from goal setting to coaching and feedback to hold effective meetings to progress discipline.

Program Course 4: Effective Delegation

Delegation is an overlooked and undervalued tool that managers can use to effectively carry out your responsibilities as an organization leader. Apart from saving time, delegation helps motivate your staff by giving them responsibility.

Program Course 5: How to Hire an Effective Team

This course is designed to provide individuals involved in the hiring process with the resources and tools to make the best hiring decision. This course will provide the tools for hiring managers, recruiters and every member of the interviewing process up to speed on interviewing and recruiting top performers.

Pre-Work: A pre work questionnaire is distributed to evaluate the current interviewing knowledge of the group of participants prior to training.

Program Course 6: Leading Through Change

Effectively leading change in organizations requires not only an awareness of how the change process affects people — but also building skills in managers and staff on how to guide people (and themselves) through the challenging journey of change. Along with presenting a model for leading change, the workshop provides participants with roadmap for managers and provides them with the skills to lead their staff through change.
