Atlanta – July 17, 2009 – Women in Technology (WIT) is announcing today early estimates from last evening’s 15th Annual WIT Connect: Connecting for a Cause fundraising event nearly doubled its initial goal by raising approximately $220,000 to support WIT programs and philanthropy initiatives.
WIT Connect, a top networking fundraiser that auctions the time of executives of top Georgia corporations and draws hundreds of the technology community’s leaders together, was held at the Atlanta History Center. Approximately 400 technology leaders attended the event, with 30 leading companies are volunteering approximately 60 high-level executives as part of the live and silent auctions.
“Were we concerned the economy might impact our ability to raise money, gain sponsorships and sell tickets? Absolutely,” says event co-chair Gina Gallo, president at Stratix. “The fact that the event was sold out, that we had companies including SaM Solutions commit dollars allowing us to exceed sponsorship goals, and that the auction was an enormous financial success gives me a new confidence in the current business economy in Georgia.”
Jennifer Poole Sobocinski, a founding partner at CarterBaldwin and co-chair of this year’s event says the tireless efforts of a team of exceptional volunteers made the event an outstanding success.
“The dedication of WIT’s volunteers never ceases to amaze me, and the team that orchestrated the success at this year’s WIT Connect is no exception,” says Sobocinski. “We also thank the companies that donated their time for this year’s auction, making it one of the most successful to date.”
