Annual Fundraising Event Proceeds Support Advancement of Women in Technology Careers

Atlanta, GA – June 5, 2012 – Women In Technology (WIT), an association committed to the development of women in Georgia’s technology industry, today announced they have sold all corporate tables and only have individual tickets available for WIT Connect Presented by Dell, a unique, auction-style fundraiser where companies bid on time with executives from top Georgia corporations, to be held on June 13 at  6 p.m. at the Georgia Aquarium. On behalf of the city of Atlanta, City Councilman Lamar Willis will issue a proclamation to WIT for their efforts in promoting and supporting women and girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers.

Each year, WIT Connect brings technology leaders together with up-and-coming professionals for an entertaining evening of networking and competitive bidding. This year’s lineup includes live auction packages from The Coca-Cola Company, Cox Communications, IHG, McKesson and NCR, while the silent auction includes executives and CIOs from companies such as Southern Company, Dell, ING, Global Payments, and many more. A full list of participating auction candidates is available here.

“We have never seen an auction candidate lineup quite so robust for WIT Connect,” said Stephanie Hill, executive director for WIT. “Their enthusiastic participation in this important event, as well as the generous support of our sponsors, ensures that this year’s Connect will far exceed everyone’s expectations.”

“The involvement of the business and technology community for this event is inspirational,” said co-chair Stephanie Norris.  “Each year, more and more of Georgia’s CIOs and technology executives from top companies have generously donated their time to WIT Connect, ensuring that from the classroom to the boardroom, women in technology fields play ever-growing roles in advancing Georgia’s economy.”

During the event, business leaders will have the opportunity to meet some of the young ladies that have benefited from the proceeds of WIT Connect.  “When you hear these girls talk about the impact that WIT programs and support have had on their educational and career decisions, I feel such a strong connection,” added co-chair Lo Li.

Funds raised at WIT Connect support programming aimed at developing future technology leaders, like the Formula One in Schools racing team Shift, who were recently named national champions, WIT Foundation philanthropy initiatives like Girls Get IT and WIT on Campus, and grants to STEM-focused nonprofits and local schools. Since 2007, WIT Connect has raised more than $1.4 million.
