Atlanta – July 7, 2009 – Women in Technology (WIT) is hosting its 15th annual WIT Connect: Connecting for a Cause on July 16, 2009 at the Atlanta History Center, with the silent and live auction event beginning at 5:30 p.m. WIT Connect is a top networking fundraiser that auctions the time of executives of top Georgia corporations and draws hundreds of the technology community’s leaders together to raise money to support WIT programs and philanthropy initiatives.

More than 375 technology leaders are expected to attend this year’s event, and 30 leading companies are volunteering approximately 60 high-level executives as part of WIT Connect.

Tricia Dempsey, chief executive officer of Atlanta-based IT talent firm Agile and board member of WIT, considers WIT Connect a key factor in her business-building strategy.

“We have bid at WIT Connect for the last five years, and continue to do business with each company we have won in the last five years,” says Dempsey. “For Agile, the return on investment has been a minimum of 500 percent. The investment in WIT Connect is a no-brainer!”

In the last two years, the event has raised more than $400,000 for WIT’s programs and philanthropic initiatives, with bids ranging from the hundreds to the $50,000 range. Several new companies are participating in the auction this year, including Newell Rubbermaid, Ceredian, NCR and The Home Depot.

“As a new resident of the Atlanta area, I was excited to learn that WIT hosts a fundraising event of this caliber,” said Cara Kinzey, senior vice president of Information Technology for The Home Depot. “This is an excellent way for members of our IT leadership team to stay connected with the local technology community while contributing to a great cause.”

Jennifer Poole Sobocinski, a founding partner at CarterBaldwin and co-chair of this year’s event says “demand for tickets, increased sponsorship levels, and new and returning auction participation is a testament to the commitment the Atlanta technology community has to supporting important organizations like WIT – and to an improving economy.”

“This is a tough economic year, but as we look at the number of participants, sponsors and attendees, I think it’s a positive indicator there are business growth opportunities around the corner,” says Gina Gallo, president at Stratix and co-chair of WIT Connect.
