Sold-Out Event Raises an Estimated $385,000 for WIT and WIT Foundation Programs, Awards First Scholarship
Atlanta, GA – June 17, 2014 – Close to 800 sponsors, supporters and guests attended the Women in Technology’s (WIT) 20th annual fundraiser to raise money for programs aimed at developing future technology leaders, and to support the WIT Foundation’s science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)-focused philanthropic initiatives and grants.
WIT Connect, an auction-style fundraiser, brought the best and brightest stars in the Atlanta business and technology communities together for a fun and exciting evening where companies bid on packages featuring quality time with executives from some of Atlanta’s top companies.
Candidates in the live auction this year represented NCR, Cox Communications, SunTrust, Novelis, Aaron’s and Brambles/CHEP. The silent auction featured more than 90 senior executives from 50 companies.
“WIT is very passionate about advancing women and girls in technology,” said Monica Thornton, WIT President and CEO. “Our goal is to help make Georgia a state where 50% of its STEM workforce is comprised of women by the year 2020. We are tremendously grateful for the generous support of our partners and friends at WIT Connect , which enable us to continue providing programs to develop tomorrow’s technology leaders.”
WIT Connect raised an estimated $385,000, which will enable the organization and its Foundation to provide networking, thought leadership, behind-the-scene tours, mentorships and other professional development opportunities for Georgia’s technology leaders at every stage of their career.
For the first year ever, the event also raised money for the WIT on Campus Scholarship, awarding nearly $5,000 to Asia Rahman, a recent graduate of Georgia State University and student ambassador for WIT on Campus initiatives. The scholarship will help her advance her education and skills to become a leader in the next generation of Georgia’s women in technology.
